FAQs

Questions patients often ask

Booking and referrals

Not if you’re paying for yourself. If you’re insured, your insurer may ask for a GP referral before authorising your appointment.

Appointments are usually available within a few days at one of the four hospitals. My secretary will offer you the earliest time at the location you prefer.

Yes. Initial and follow-up appointments are available by secure video call. If you need an examination or an X-ray, a face-to-face visit will be arranged.

Whichever is most convenient for you. Mr Hakimi offers the same care at each location. My secretary can help you choose if you are unsure.

Fees and insurance

A new consultation is £250 and a follow-up £150. Fees are confirmed when you book.

Mr Hakimi is recognised by Bupa, AXA Health, Aviva, Vitality, Cigna and Allianz. If your insurer is not listed, please contact my secretary.

A fixed-price package is quoted by the hospital and normally covers the hospital stay, the operation, the implant, the surgeon’s and anaesthetist’s fees and routine follow-up. The hospital will confirm exactly what is included before you decide.

Your treatment

Not necessarily. Many hip and knee problems improve with non-surgical treatment, and surgery is only recommended when it’s the right option for you.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is made from a small sample of your own blood. It is injected into the joint and may ease the symptoms of arthritis for some people. Results vary, and Mr Hakimi will explain the evidence before you decide.

Most people are walking with support on the day of surgery or the day after. Recovery then continues over weeks and months and varies from person to person. You’ll be given a plan for each stage.

Every operation carries risks, including infection, blood clots, stiffness and the possibility that symptoms do not fully settle. Mr Hakimi will explain the risks that apply to you, and how they are reduced, before you give consent.
